Single Seat Kayak Rentals – $10 per 1/2 hour per person

Kayak Rental Terms & Safety Requirements

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the water, all kayak passengers must adhere to the following policies:

  • Swimming & Safety Gear: All passengers must know how to swim and must wear a US Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD/Life Jacket) at all times while on the water. PFDs are provided with your rental.
  • Experience Requirements: All participants must be certified, have previous kayaking experience, or share a tandem (double) kayak with someone who meets at least one of these requirements. A California Windsurfing Instructor will determine if any non-certified paddlers have sufficient skills to rent.
  • Age Restrictions: All passengers must be at least 18 years of age. Minors under 18 may participate only if accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is authorized to sign the rental agreement and who will supervise the minor’s activities at all times, both on land and on the water.
  • California Windsurfing requires a valid US Driver’s License (Showing the individual is at least 18 years of age) or a valid Passport (Showing the holder is at least 21 years of age) to be held as security during the rental period. California Windsurfing will retain the License or Passport until all watercraft and associated equipment is returned undamaged and rental fees fully paid.

Availability & Rental Policies

  • First-Come, First-Served: No reservations are accepted. Kayak rentals are available strictly on a first-come, first-served basis, weather permitting.
  • Contact Us: Please contact California Windsurfing today to check our current hours of operation, equipment availability, and local weather conditions.
  • Single-Renter Policy: Rental equipment is for use by one individual renter only. Equipment sharing is strictly prohibited.
  • Permitted Boundaries: Equipment is for use only within the Foster City Lagoon at Leo J. Ryan Park (Foster City, CA 94404). Launching or traveling outside this area is not permitted.

Sorry, we don’t accept checks, credit cards, or $100 bills at our waterside location.

Introduction to Kayaking Lesson
Introduction to Kayaking for beginners 12 years of age and above.

Friendly atmosphere, knowledgeable instructors, safe inland waters, kayak, paddle, and life preserver (PFD) provided. Classes cover balance, steering, and safety on the water.

One-hour session, including a dry land overview and 30 minutes of supervised instruction on the water:

All classes are by appointment only and weather permitting.

To keep our rates as low as possible, California Windsurfing has elected to remain a cash-only facility. We know this can be inconvenient. However, our customer survey indicated that lower rates are highly preferred over convenience credit card acceptance.

Students/Renters of Windsurfers, Kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards must be 18 years of age,  accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, know how to swim, complete and sign the California Windsurfing waiver agreement, acknowledge they understand and agree to be bound by its terms and conditions.

Pet Policy

We love pets, but for safety reasons, we cannot allow dogs, cats, or other pets onboard any of our watercraft, including Windsurfers, Pedal Boats, Stand-up Paddle Boards, and Kayaks. Service dogs are welcome.

Operating Hours 

12:30 pm to 6:30 pm Tuesday through Friday.
11:30 am to 6:30 pm Saturday & Sunday.
Last rental out at 6:00 pm, with a maximum rental duration of 30 minutes unless otherwise approved by the facility attendant on duty.
